When at sea Mike qualified as a Master Mariner sailing on all types of vessels latterly seven years on chemical/parcel tankers. Following his sea service, Mike graduated with an honours degree in law from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

Mike Mitchell has been associated with the shipping industry for all of his working career. Initially at sea for 12 years then as a solicitor and partner with two major London shipping law firms.

When at sea Mike qualified as a Master Mariner sailing on all types of vessels latterly seven years on chemical/parcel tankers.

Following his sea service, Mike graduated with an honours degree in law from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

Mike has handled a considerable number of cases involving all aspects of casualty work including: salvage, wreck removal, collisions, unsafe ports, oil pollution, fixed object damage, fire/explosions, associated general average disputes, heavy lift and towage contracts, bunker disputes and oil and chemical tanker contaminations.

Salvage and wreck removal work is a particular specialisation and Mike has been involved in some of the biggest and high profile cases over the past years.

Mike is a supporting member of the LMAA, a member of the Nautical Institute and Freeman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners.

Mike has been recommended in the Legal 500 Guide as ‘noted for admiralty and casualty work’ and as having excellent marine knowledge’.
